TYLER, Texas, Sept. 27, 2019 – Brookshire Grocery Co. (BGC) truck driver Jack Wroten has achieved 1 million safely driven miles. Wroten has more than 35 years of experience with BGC and is one of 26 company drivers to have ever logged 1 million safely driven miles during their careers.

Wroten reached the milestone Sept. 25 while transporting groceries from the company’s distribution center in Tyler. Company leaders joined Wroten’s coworkers and his wife, Karen, to congratulate him upon his return.

Wroten is the fourth truck driver for BGC to have achieved the milestone of 1 million miles without a preventable accident since April. In December, Marvin Miles, a truck driver based at Brookshire’s distribution center in Monroe, Louisiana, became the first truck driver for Brookshire’s to achieve 2 million miles without a preventable accident.

TYLER, Texas, Sept. 26, 2019 – Brookshire Grocery Co. has announced that “Brookshire’s CURBSIDE” online ordering with curbside pickup is now available at the Brookshire’s Food Store located at 1224 N. Pacific Ave. in Mineola.

Through “Brookshire’s CURBSIDE,” customers may order, pay and schedule pick-up times at the store using the Brookshire’s website and mobile app. Thousands of products are available, including fresh meats, local produce and Brookshire’s brand products, at the same prices as in the store. Customers with a registered Brookshire’s Thank You Card can earn and redeem yourpoints on qualifying purchases using “Brookshire’s CURBSIDE.” Products in the store that are not found in the online selection can be added to the “Order Instructions” when placing an order. 

The store’s personal shoppers fill customers’ orders by selecting the freshest products available and carefully following any special instructions. Personal shoppers will text or call customers with any questions about their selections and to notify them when their order is ready for pick up. Orders are delivered to customers’ cars at their scheduled pick-up time in the curbside parking area. Service hours are from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, and orders can be picked up in as little as two hours.

TYLER, Texas, Sept. 5, 2019 – Brookshire Grocery Co. (BGC) truck driver Layne Arant today achieved the milestone of 1 million safely driven miles. Arant is one of 25 company drivers to have ever logged 1 million safely driven miles during their careers with BGC.

Arant reached the milestone while driving from the company’s distribution center in Monroe, La., to the Tyler distribution center. Company leaders joined Arant’s coworkers to congratulate him upon his arrival in Tyler. BGC will also host a celebration for Arant at the distribution center in Monroe.

Arant has more than 25 years of experience as a BGC truck driver based in Monroe. He has been awarded numerous honors at the Louisiana State Truck Driving Championship including first place in the 4-axle category in 2015 and first place in the flatbed category in 2013 and 2014. Arant has also received the BGC Truck Driver of the Year Award three times and been named a “Highway Angel” by the Truckload Carriers Association for stopping to assist a group of teenagers when their car caught fire.

Willow St. in Lafayette.

Super 1 Foods’ ‘Fill the Big Grocery Cart’ event provides over $6K in donations to St. Francis Diner

TYLER, Texas, Aug. 9, 2019 – The Super 1 Foods store located at 939 S. Lewis St. has donated over $6,000 in nonperishable food items and more than $1,000 to help St. Francis Diner provide meals to community members in need. The donations were made possible through the store’s “Fill the Big Grocery Cart” event Aug. 2– 3.

During the event, customers were encouraged to donate non-perishable food items with the goal to completely fill Super 1 Foods’ 13-foot tall motorized grocery cart. Beginning Aug. 3, customers who donated two or more non-perishable food items received a free Viator’s hot dog while supplies lasted.

The New Iberia Police Department, New Iberia Fire Department, Iberia Parish Sherriff’s Office, Greater Iberia Chamber of Commerce and Mayor Freddie Decourt were among those who contributed non-perishable food items during the event. Through customers’ generosity, total food donations far surpassed expectations and came close to filling the Big Grocery Cart twice. Super 1 Foods delivered the donated food to St. Francis Diner using the Big Grocery Cart, with assistance from the New Iberia Police Department.

“It was incredible to see our community come together and make donations to completely fill the Big Grocery Cart, not once, but almost twice,” said Morris Lewis, Store Director at Super 1 Foods in New Iberia. “These donations will go a long way in helping St. Francis Diner to feed those in need. We are very proud to be a part of such a caring community and appreciate everyone who supported this effort.”

TYLER, Texas, Aug. 7, 2019 – Brookshire Grocery Co. recently presented a donation totaling more than $12,000 to Cedar Creek Veterans Foundation. The donation was made in part using proceeds from scan coupon donations at select Brookshire’s Food Stores in East Texas.

“The Cedar Creek Veterans Foundation would like to thank Brookshire’s Food Stores for their support of and commitment to East Texas veterans,” said Lyn Thomas, Director and President for Cedar Creek Veterans Foundation. “With Brookshire’s donation, the CCVF should be able to provide record funding in support of veteran organizations this year.”

From June 19 to July 6, Brookshire’s Food Stores in Athens, Kaufman, Mabank, Malakoff and Seven Points offered $5 scan coupons for customers to make donations to Cedar Creek Veterans Foundation. Customers who donated received a coupon for $5 off their next grocery purchase of $25 or more.

Twenty-four veterans, mostly from World War II, as well as a few from the Korean War, attended the trip in May. 

The company provided dinner and presented the veterans with a memory book, a CD with more than 2,000 pictures, and a video of their trip on DVD, which was shown at the dinner. Company volunteers who assisted the veterans during the trip also attended. 

Brookshire Grocery Co.’s WWII Heroes Flight is an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., provided by the company to honor veterans for their service and sacrifices. BGC has taken more than 480 veterans from Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas to Washington, D.C., since establishing the program in 2010. Veterans who attended the trip in May were primarily from the Monroe, Louisiana, and Tyler, Texas, areas.

The Heroes Flight trip included visits to the WWII Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery and the Air and Space Museum, along with memorials honoring the U.S. Marines, Navy, Air Force, Abraham Lincoln, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Martin Luther King Jr., and Vietnam and Korean War veterans. The group also toured the U.S. Capitol with Congressman Louie Gohmert (R-Texas).

Super 1 Foods Donates Gatorade to Bell Fitness Center at Barksdale Air Force Base

TYLER, Texas, July 11, 2019 – Super 1 Foods has donated more than 2,500 Gatorade products to Bell Fitness Center at Barksdale Air Force Base. The donation was made through Super 1 Foods’ partnership with Gatorade to help military heroes stay hydrated as they work to protect our country.

During the month of May, customers who shopped at Super 1 Foods received two free Gatorade products for every three purchased in a single transaction. Customers were encouraged to donate Gatorade purchases in specially marked bins at each store. All donated products were distributed to military bases.

Brookshire’s Celebrates Carroll Sandifer’s 50th Anniversary

Pacific Ave. in Mineola, is celebrating 50 years of service with Brookshire Grocery Co. Leaders with Brookshire’s were joined by Sandifer’s family, co-workers and customers today to surprise him with an anniversary celebration.  

A native of Mineola, Sandifer has spent most of his career serving customers at the local Brookshire’s Food Store, beginning as a grocery stocker in 1969. He later served in several management roles at the Quitman location before returning to Mineola in 1985.

Rosemary Jones of Brookshire’s named a ‘Top Woman in Grocery’

TYLER, Texas, June 27, 2019 – Rosemary Jones, Executive Vice President – Chief People Officer/Legal for Brookshire Grocery Co., has been selected as one of Progressive Grocer’s Top Women in Grocery in the Senior-Level Executive category. Honorees were selected for extraordinary achievements during the past year and were featured in the publication’s June issue.

Jones joined BGC in 2016 after having worked closely with the company for 20 years as an attorney/partner in the Ramey & Flock firm. Recent accomplishments with Brookshire’s include the establishment of an emergency assistance program for employees that raised over $450,000 in its first year, an employee communication app, and new leadership training, wellness and employee recognition programs. Jones received BGC’s esteemed Louise Brookshire Spirit Award in 2018.

Actively involved in community service, Jones served this past year on boards of directors for the Salvation Army and East Texas Food Bank. She is a past Chairman of the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce. Her civic involvement has included serving on the board for the Tyler Economic Development Council and membership with Leadership Tyler and The Women's Fund.

Professionally, Jones is a member of the Rose City Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM), SHRM National, the American Board of Trial Advocates, and the State Bar of Texas. She is certified as a SHRM-CP and is board certified in labor and employment law, as well as personal injury defense, by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

Brookshire Grocery Co.’s WWII Heroes Flight to Depart for Washington, D.C.

TYLER, Texas, May 21, 2019 – Brookshire Grocery Co. will escort 24 veterans, mostly from World War II but also from the Korean War, to Washington, D.C., May 23-25 on its 18th Brookshire’s and Super 1 Foods Heroes Flight. BGC provides the all-expenses paid trip as a way of honoring our veterans for their service and sacrifices.

In addition to visiting the WWII memorial, the group will tour the U.S. Capitol with Congressman Louie Gohmert (R-Texas). Other points of interest will include Arlington National Cemetery, the Air and Space Museum and memorials honoring the U.S. Marines, Navy, Air Force, Abraham Lincoln, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Martin Luther King Jr., and Vietnam and Korean War veterans.

As of this trip, BGC will have taken 485 veterans from Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas to Washington, D.C, since establishing the Heroes Flight program in 2010. Veterans on this trip are primarily from the Monroe, Louisiana, and Tyler, Texas, areas. Several BGC employees will also be on the trip to assist the veterans.

Annual Brookshire’s Golf Tournament raises record $625K for charity

TYLER, Texas, April 30, 2019 – The 31st annual Brookshire Grocery Co. (BGC) Charity Golf Tournament raised a record-breaking $625,000, with more than 675 golfers competing on four East Texas courses.

BGC donates tournament proceeds each year to more than 100 nonprofit organizations in more than 150 communities served by Brookshire’s, FRESH by Brookshire’s, Super 1 Foods and Spring Market stores. The company focuses its charitable giving on hunger relief, education, family wellbeing, and  military heroes and first responders.

Tournament participants were primarily representatives from 250 vendor companies, along with BGC leaders and other business associates. Course locations were The Cascades, Eagles Bluff, Hollytree and Willow Brook. BGC also hosted a dinner and charity auction Monday evening at the Harvey Convention Center in Tyler.

BGC Truck Driver Huey Davenport Achieves 1-Million Safely Driven Miles

TYLER, Texas, April 25, 2019 – Brookshire Grocery Co. (BGC) Truck Driver and Training Specialist Huey Davenport today achieved the milestone of 1 million safely driven miles. Davenport is one of 23 company drivers to have logged 1 million safely driven miles.

Davenport reached the milestone while driving from the company’s distribution center in Monroe, La., to its distribution center in Tyler. Company leaders gathered to congratulate Davenport upon his arrival in Tyler. BGC will also host a celebration for Davenport in Monroe.

Davenport has more than 25 years of experience as a BGC truck driver. Based in Monroe, he was promoted to Driver Training Specialist in 2015. He has received numerous honors at the Louisiana State Truck Driving Championship including first place in the flatbed category in 2008 and 2009, second place in the flatbed category in 2002 and the Overall Mechanic Award in 2000. Davenport was also among the BGC truck drivers who earned the State Team Award in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

Jackson has served as Store Director at Brookshire’s in his hometown of Hallsville since 2012. With more than 38 years of experience with BGC, he began his career as a courtesy clerk and worked his way up. Since his promotion in 2005, he has also served as Store Director at company stores in Marshall and Jefferson, Texas. Jackson was recognized as an honoree in the 2018 BGC Store Director of the Year awards program for his service leadership and community involvement.

TYLER, Texas, April 18, 2019 – Brookshire Grocery Co. has donated $70,000 to support first responders and military heroes using proceeds from the third annual Brookshire’s and Super 1 Foods Heroes Run that took place last October in Shreveport.

Benefitting organizations include the Shreveport Police and Fire Departments, Bossier City Police and Fire Departments, Barksdale Air Force Base, Wounded Warrior Project and Team Red, White and Blue. Company leaders presented the donation today at the Brookshire’s Food Store on Line Avenue in Shreveport.

TYLER, Texas, April 16, 2019 – Brookshire Grocery Co. hosted the Texas Department of Public Safety’s Region 1 Trooper Challenge April 10 at the company’s distribution center in Tyler.

More than 25 troopers and other law enforcement officials representing 52 counties in northeast Texas competed in the event, which includes evaluations on commercial vehicle inspections and written exams. Brookshire Grocery Co. provided the testing equipment and served lunch to the law enforcement officials.

Brookshire’s Michael Rowe named a national ‘Produce Manager of the Year’

Of the hundreds of produce managers from the U.S. and Canada who were nominated, Rowe was one of 25 selected to receive the honor. He will be recognized June 10-12 at the United Fresh convention in Chicago.

The Retail Produce Manager Award honors outstanding produce managers who set a standard of excellence in the produce department and are committed to serving customers and their communities. A seven-year employee-partner with Brookshire Grocery Co., Rowe was promoted to produce manager in 2016.

Record Number of Runners Participate in Sixth Annual FRESH 15

TYLER, Texas, March 5, 2019 – Close to 4,400 runners from 22 states and three countries participated in the sixth annual FRESH 15 race March 2 at FRESH by Brookshire’s in Tyler. Brookshire Grocery Co. hosts the annual event, which features 15K, 5K and kids’ 1K races.

This year’s race was broadcast live on video screens at FRESH by Brookshire’s and online so hundreds of spectators could watch the race and cheer on their friends and family. The FRESH 15 donates 100 percent of race revenue, with $140,000 raised for local non-profit organizations this year.  

The overall winner of the FRESH 15K race was Cleophas Ngetich of Grand Prairie, Texas, with a finish time of 44:39. Vicoty Chepngeno, also from Grand Prairie, was the top female finisher and set a course record for females at 48:41.

Current Tyler, Texas, residents were eligible for the Local Legends FRESH 15 Championship, with cash prizes awarded to the top three male and female 15K finishers. Haftu Knight and Mallory Meredith were the top male and female finishers, respectively.

Minor Traffic Detours, Delays Early Saturday for FRESH 15 Race

TYLER, Texas, Feb. 28, 2019 – Brookshire Grocery Co. will host the sixth annual FRESH 15 on Saturday, March 2, at the FRESH by Brookshire’s store located at 6991 Old Jacksonville Hwy. in Tyler. The BGC Racing team is partnering with the Tyler Police Department to accommodate traffic on race morning.

The FRESH 15 features 15K and 5K races that provide a scenic view of South Tyler, with both courses starting and finishing at FRESH by Brookshire’s. Tyler Police, BGC Racing staff and volunteers will be on hand to direct traffic.

Some roads will be temporarily closed during the race. Three Lakes Parkway and Highlands Lane will be closed from 6 a.m. until race finish. Old Jacksonville Highway and Dueling Oaks Drive will close intermittently from 6:45– 9 a.m.

One hundred percent of race revenue from the FRESH 15 is donated to local non-profit organizations, with more than $650,000 raised since the race was established in 2014. This year, the FRESH 15 will be broadcast live on video screens at FRESH and online at bgcracing.com/live-video/ so spectators can experience the race with their friends and family.

Sixth Annual FRESH 15 Race Set for March 2

TYLER, Texas, Feb. 20, 2019 – Brookshire Grocery Co. is excited to host the sixth annual FRESH 15 on Saturday, March 2, at the FRESH by Brookshire’s store located at 6991 Old Jacksonville Highway in Tyler. This year, the FRESH 15 will be broadcast live on video screens at FRESH and online at bgcracing.com/live-video/ so spectators can experience the race with their friends and family.   

The FRESH 15 features 15K and 5K races that provide a scenic view of South Tyler, with both courses starting and finishing at FRESH by Brookshire’s. A Lil’ FRESHie 1K is also offered for ages 12 and under. One hundred percent of race revenue is donated to local non-profit organizations, with more than $650,000 raised since the FRESH 15 was established in 2014.

Every race participant will receive a finisher’s medal, finisher’s apparel item, FRESH 15 hat, free high-resolution race photos and entry into a runners-only area featuring exclusive vendors. Participants and spectators are invited to join the post-race “Party on the Pavement” at FRESH by Brookshire’s featuring free food, vendors and live music by Zoodust, a 90’s party band.

TYLER, Texas, Jan. 26, 2019 – Brookshire Grocery Co. hosted a grand opening celebration today for “The PARK at FRESH,” a fun new experience at the FRESH by Brookshire’s store on Old Jacksonville Highway in Tyler.

“The PARK at FRESH” includes two playgrounds, one for ages 2-5 on the store’s patio and a larger playground near the store’s north entrance for ages 5-12. Both areas are fenced, shaded, and feature high-grade playground equipment and rubber flooring for added safety. Grand opening activities were from 2-4 p.m. Saturday and included face-painting, balloons, a photo booth and refreshments.

BGC Introduces ‘Brookshire’s CURBSIDE’ in Forney

TYLER, Texas, Jan. 16, 2019 – Brookshire Grocery Co. (BGC) has announced that “Brookshire’s CURBSIDE” online ordering with curbside pickup is now available at the Brookshire’s store located at 427 Pinson Rd. in Forney.

Through “Brookshire’s CURBSIDE,” customers may order, pay and schedule pick-up times at the store using the Brookshire’s website and mobile app. Thousands of products are available, including fresh meats, local produce and Brookshire’s brand products, at the same prices as in the store. Customers with a registered Brookshire’s Thank You Card can earn and redeem yourpoints on qualifying purchases using “Brookshire’s CURBSIDE.” 

The store’s personal shoppers fill customers’ orders by selecting the freshest products available and carefully following any special instructions. Personal shoppers will text or call customers with any questions about their selections and to notify them when their order is ready for pick up. Orders are delivered to customers’ cars at their scheduled pick-up time in the curbside parking area. Service hours are from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, with same-day service available.

BGC launched “Brookshire’s CURBSIDE” in December and has now rolled out the service to 10 stores, with plans to expand to additional locations soon. The company also offers curbside service at 35 Super 1 Foods stores and its FRESH by Brookshire’s store.

BGC Celebrates Grand Openings, Launches Curbside Service in Bullard and Lindale

TYLER, Texas, Jan. 9, 2019 – Brookshire Grocery Co. leaders and city officials gathered today for ribbon-cutting ceremonies to commemorate the grand openings of the remodeled Brookshire’s stores located at 213 N. US Hwy. 69 in Bullard and 521 S. Main St. in Lindale. The stores also celebrated the launch of “Brookshire’s CURBSIDE,” an online ordering service with curbside pickup that is now available at these locations.

The renovated supermarkets both feature a fresh sushi bar, along with an expanded full-service meat and seafood counter now offering USDA Prime Certified Angus Beef®. A convenient drive-thru lane for prescription pick up has been added to the pharmacy at the Lindale store. The Bullard location’s fuel center now offers Diesel fuel. Both stores also boast a modern design with new signage, paint, décor, flooring and energy-efficient LED lighting.

The grand opening celebrations will continue at the stores with the introduction of the company’s “Big Grocery Cart” motorized shopping cart from 12–5 p.m. on Jan. 12 in Bullard and 12–5 p.m. on Jan. 19 in Lindale. Everyone is welcome to take photos with the “Big Grocery Cart,” which features a V8 engine and stands at approximately 13 feet tall and 8.5 feet wide.
