0Ingredients
1/2 cup nuts or dried fruit, chopped (see note)
1/4 cup liquor or liqueur (see note)
1 stick unsalted butter, room temperature
3 cups powdered sugar, sifted
12 oz dark chocolate, melted
assorted sprinkles, edible glitter, cocoa powder and chopped nuts (for decorating)
Directions
- In a small bowl, combine the chopped nuts or dried fruit with the desired liquor or liqueur. Let soak for 30 minutes.
- In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the butter until creamy. Slowly add the powdered sugar, and beat until completely combined.
- Fold in the soaked nuts or dried fruit. If using maraschino cherries or other additional add-ins, fold them in now. Let chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
- Using a small scoop, portion the mixture into one-inch balls. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Refrigerate for at least one hour.
- After chilling, use a skewer or fork to dip each ball into the melted chocolate. Coat them completely. Place on the parchment-lined baking sheet. Immediately decorate as desired. Let chill in the fridge for 30 minutes before serving.
Note: Customize the bonbons with chopped nuts or dried fruit, finely chopped maraschino cherries, 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder, chopped chocolate, or coconut flakes. For cocoa-flavored bonbons, mix 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder into the butter mixture. Soak the nuts or dried fruit in bourbon, amaretto or your favorite liqueur before adding to the mixture.
